GREAT TEW – The Battle for the Cotswolds
The Sealed Knot are holding their biggest English Civil War battle reenactment of the year in Tew Park on Sunday, August 30 and Monday, August 31.
Involving more than 2,000 actors in full costume and featuring cavalry charges, pitched pike battles, musket volleys and rounds of cannon fire, they will re-enact a battle based on the last pitched battle of the war, the battle for nearby Stow-on-the-Wold in 1646.
The event will be staged on two consecutive days over the August Bank Holiday weekend and as well as the battle itself – involving the Royalist and Parliamentarian Armies and battalions from Ireland and Scotland – which will last from 2.30pm – 4pm each day, there will be lots of Living History exhibits to explore, where people in costume demonstrate everyday life in 17th century England – how clothes and armour were made, how food was prepared and how illness and injuries were treated.
A little like being on an interactive film set, this will be a hugely entertaining and educational day out for the whole family, with kids’ activity sheets and treasure hunts.

This will be the biggest event to be hosted in Great Tew since the Cornbury Festival. The Parish Meeting and the Tew Benefice are joining forces to raise money for essential repairs and improvements to the three churches in our Benefice, at Great Tew, Little Tew and Heythrop.
A team of local volunteers will be running the food and drink tents from 11am to 4pm on both days (and the beer tent will be open until 7pm):
